Miss Mia

Miss Mia has been coming to see me for the past year and recently she just completed her Baby Grow programme with me!  Such a gorgeous wee thing.  Here are the images her family have chosen from her last session, including a cake smash!

Shooting this family of four is always a challenge and I'm always up for a challenge!  They were at the studio recently for my world-famous-in-Christchurch minishoot sessions!

I shot Amelia & Charlie's parents' wedding which seemed like an age ago - well it was just before the February earthquake so I've been shooting these guys for a while now! They have the most beautiful wee kiddies!  Here are a few images from their minishoot last week.

Julia & Nick's City engagement shoot

Written by Angela Penn on September 13th, 2015.      0 comments

Julia & Nick are cafe/cycle buffs so it was only fitting we started our shoot at The Caffeine Laboratory in New Regent Street and cruise around the city for some cool spots!  It's amazing how you sometimes don't notice the blank, empty places in Christchurch until you see them from above (shot from the Rendezvous Hotel) but there sure are some wonderful things happening in our beautiful city.

Jess & Mike's First Day of "Spring" engagemement session

Written by Angela Penn on September 1st, 2015.      0 comments

You'll notice the word Spring in my title is in inverted commas.  That means it wasn't Spring weather at all. In fact it was more like middle-of-winter weather.  BUT IT WAS STILL AWESOME!  I actually really love shooting in this type of weather - I think it kind of makes you stretch yourself a little bit more creatively.  You know you've only got a limited amount of time so there's pressure to get some great shots.  Or one shot at least!

I'd met Jess & Mike once before at Amanda & Simon's wedding where Mike was a groomsman. Jess had told me she doesn't really enjoy getting her photo taken (I get this comment a LOT) so I wasn't sure how she'd cope with a full on photo shoot and a big camera.  Wow, I had nothing to worry about - these guys are awesome in front of the camera and just so natural!

Bec & Blair's secret wedding

Written by Angela Penn on August 26th, 2015.      0 comments

I was very excited to be shooting Bec & Blair's wedding - it was just a small, intimate affair but it was TOP SECRET! I started off at their townhouse where Bec was getting ready and because it was a secret, even the makeup artist didn't know!  She asked Bec what type of makeup she wanted and was presented with the wedding dress and "something to go with THIS!".

Amy & John's Hinton's Vineyard Restaurant wedding

Written by Angela Penn on May 25th, 2015.      0 comments

Amy & John are one of those super sweet couples you instantly love.  They are so sweet that our family decided to go on their honeymoon with them.  No, really!  No, not really but we kind of did! Their wedding was the week before the school holidays and we'd decided to take the kids to Rarotonga.  I found out the night of Amy & John's wedding that they were flying to Rarotonga a couple of days before us AND we were both staying on Muri beach. Small world, huh?  Anyway, I did not take my camera on holiday (probably just as well for Amy and John as we did bump into them a couple of times!).  Here are some shots from their wedding day.  :)

We started the day off at Amy's parents' place where I was met by their very curious kitten!

Victoria & Sam's Port Levy wedding

Written by Angela Penn on April 2nd, 2015.      0 comments

I got to spend another stunning day with this gorgeous couple who giggled and smiled and laughed their way through their beautiful wedding day.  I LOVE people who are happy and smile lots and I had so much fun with these guys.  People like this are such a pleasure to be around and it makes my job so much more enjoyable when there are smiles-a-plenty.  :)

We started off in Diamond Harbour where Victoria and the girls were getting ready.

The Harveys go to Sumner Beach

You may recognise Lucy, well you may have seen her work on my page.  She's Lucy Harvey Makeup Artist! We get to work together a lot but this is the first time I've 'shot' her family!  Her and hubby Regan celebrated their wedding anniversary a few days' before so what better way to mark the date than with a lovely photo shoot at sunny Sumner Beach!  Except it wasn't so sunny!  It didn't stop the girls (Molly & Hazel) twirling and flying about though!

penny & dean's port hills engagement session

Written by Angela Penn on February 13th, 2015.      0 comments

The weather looked ominous for Penny & Dean's engagement shoot this week but the rain held off just enough to take some beautiful shots in the Port Hills.

This loved up couple are getting married in their home country of South Africa in May so they asked me to do their engagement shoot - just wish I could shoot their wedding - these two are soooo good in front of the camera (despite telling me they were a bit nervous!).

All the best for your wedding you two. I'll be looking forward to seeing photos - it's going to be amazing! x

vicky & mark's akaroa wedding at mt vernon lodge

Written by Angela Penn on February 8th, 2015.      0 comments

I had the very great pleasure of photographing Vicky & Mark's wedding on the 27th January in Akaroa - a place I LOVE to be and LOVE to shoot. My friend Paul Tatterson was second shooting and it was very cool to be able to hang out with him and shoot (plus I scored his fantastic images!).

Here's how Vicky & Mark's day panned out...

Vicky is a very clever girl and made lots of things on the wedding day including the girls' gorgeous bouquets!  Vicky's included some beautiful family heirlooms.

hannah & yohan's knox church wedding

Written by Angela Penn on January 25th, 2015.      0 comments

Hannah & Yohan had their first date 2 years after they met (thanks to their parents!).  It was a very nervous Yohan who asked Hannah out for coffee, and the rest (as they say) is history.  Their parents had been hinting and hinting (not so subtly I think!) for them to get together but after two years of persistence it finally paid off. Actually it was Hannah who says that when her parents finally stopped hinting, they went for coffee.

Knox Church is now open again and it's beautiful inside.  They have the old pews, some still with dust from the rubble.  It smells both old and new at the same time.  It's roomy and lovely to shoot in too!

The day started at Yohan's flat where he and his two brothers David and Josh were also getting ready, along with another groomsman, Brian.  Dad Steve was there with Yohan's mum and sister Chuana.  These guys are big on family and big on love.  It's awesome.

Then I was off to Rutherford Lodge where Hannah and her bridesmaids had just arrived from Soho where they'd just finished having hair and makup done.  Absolutely stunning!

Yohan's sister Chuana, does a lovely reading and then both Yohan & Hannah's dads get up and sing - amazing!!! Very talented families.

I love the part of the ceremony, when the new bride and groom have just signed the register. The usually think they're out of the spotlight while their witnesses are signing it, but this is when some of my favourite images are made.

Yohan's two brothers, Josh and David - it's David's birthday - happy birthday David!!! You know you WILL be expected to remember their anniversary, right?

Yohan finds a quiet spot and goes through his speech.  Love this shot (thanks for the heads up, Cat!).

The holiday period is a great time to have family photos taken and I'm normally busy between Christmas and New Year with family portraits. It's a fantastic opportunity to get everyone together and make some memories! Because you never know when you'll see each other next.  Alana's in laws were staying with them over Christmas so she asked me to take a few snaps while they were all together.  :)

I met Alana a few years ago when our boys went to preschool together - but we only really knew each other to say hi.  We've recently re-connected through mutual friends and she is one lovely lady! She owns the fabulous Soho hair salon on Lincoln Road and is uber-talented (and just down right cool).  I really enjoyed our shoot, especially getting this lovely couple shot of her and hubby Marcus.  :)

First up, I thought we'd get the group photo out the way so everyone could relax and mill around... making fun of each other while the individual groups got their photos taken.  It was a scorching hot day and everyone was very patient while I grouped and then regrouped... and then grouped again.  Gotta get it right, right? I don't want a hovering head with no body. Even though "certain people" were trying to hide...
